Drug Abuse Centre - Therapies And Treatments

Addiction is a disease and it is more than likely that when a person becomes addicted to one substance or thing, they are prone to developing a dependency on another thing to replace the existing habit.

A counsellor or therapist at a drug abuse centre will help and addict to replace the bad addiction with a good habit that will be beneficial instead of harmful to them as an individual.

But unlearning bad behaviour and relearning good habits takes time and practice in a controlled environment such as a drug abuse centre.

The amount of time that an individual will need to spend learning the better behaviour patterns is dependent on two main factors; their specific type of addiction and the length of time that they have been addicted.

A drug abuse centre normally recommends a period of about 90 days as an inpatient at the rehabilitation clinic. However, this period is mainly to detoxify the system and learn how to change behaviour.

After care or out-patient care at the drug abuse centre once the addict has been released is very important to assist the addict in continually changing their behaviour and instituting the methods they have learnt.

Some drug abuse centres will provide a longer in patient care programme to facilitate the recovery from addictions that are more difficult to change. It is important for an addict to take their time and ensure that they are fully recovered and are able and willing to re-enter society under their own care no matter how long it takes to get there.

A good drug abuse centre will set certain goals that the addict must attain before they can be released minimising the risk of the addict relapsing into their addictive behaviour patterns.

We will do whatever it takes ...

SCRC's approach is aimed at facilitating change from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.

This process will yield limited success when approached outside of a residential treatment facility particularly when detoxification is required. It is imperative that individuals entering treatment are given as much training and education as possible.
