Drug Abuse Rehabilitation

There is no quick and simple solution for drug abuse rehabilitation. It is often a lengthy process that requires commitment, as it is certainly no easy road to walk. Extended drug use causes changes in the brain that does not only lead to behavioural changes, but also changes the body to become dependent on the substance. Once this has happened, a user will do anything to carry on feeding the addiction, as the withdrawal can be excruciating.

Through a holistic approach, South Coast Recovery Centre has achieved significant success in drug abuse rehabilitation. While we provide medical care to alleviate the symptoms during the detoxification process, we also provide therapy to address the cause of this addiction, as well as prepare individuals to successfully reintegrate into society and work towards fulfilling their potential.

While this approach has certainly proven to work, there are some who feel they do not have the strength or willpower to immediately face the world and its temptations again after leaving the drug abuse rehabilitation facilities.

With these people in mind, we have created the Halfway House. This recently completed facility is situated on a 1 acre property separate from the Primary Care facility, while also being managed under the auspices of South Coast Recovery Centre.

Here we aim to provide a safe and controlled living environment for those who want to re-integrate themselves slowly back into society, under supervision of staff and fellow residents, alleviating the family of this difficult and controversial responsibility during this critical phase of the recovery process.

The Halfway House provides a protected environment for an extended period of varying lengths, in some cases up to a year, where the individual benefits from:

• Continued participation with/exposure to Primary Care
• Individualised Management
• Continued, ongoing counselling
• Support groups
• Medical Support
• Routine and structure of daily activities
• Re-integration
• Financial management and recording
• Witnessed, documented drug screening regime
• House Rules
• Further education
• Career Guidance incl. aptitude testing
• Preparation of CVs
• Employment
• Resident Manager
• Security
• Support from like minded peers
• Management of Transport

SCRC's approach is aimed at facilitating change from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.

This process will yield limited success when approached outside of a residential treatment facility particularly when detoxification is required. It is imperative that individuals entering treatment are given as much training and education as possible.
