Rehab centres across the world have developed a reputation for focusing on the spiritual, psychological and emotional requirements of drug treatment programs. This is mainly due to Hollywood and the movies that are released showing a lot of chanting, singing and praying.
But movies are made to be entertaining and anyone who has ever been to rehab centres will tell you that there is nothing entertaining about withdrawal and drug rehabilitation treatment.
The physical aspect of withdrawal is the first part of the process at most rehab centres. After that, the physical aspect remains a focus to assist the drug addict in gaining weight and muscle mass that would have lost due to their addiction.
Regular check-ups from a medical doctor at the rehab centres are also an essential part of the process to determine whether the drug abuse has damaged the patient’s health in any way. This is an ongoing process at most rehab centres and does not end when the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects are ready to be addressed.
These therapies are offered by fully trained, licensed and experienced therapists at the rehab centres. The therapies begin once the patient’s withdrawal symptoms have receded to such a point as to when they can actually concentrate on the techniques being offered. This normally happens at the end of the withdrawal process but can begin earlier or later depending on the patients needs.
Spirituality does play an important role in most drug rehabilitation treatments. This is because a person without any spiritual basis can lack the values and morals they will need to successfully make a full recovery. Spirituality also offers a recovering drug addict the strength that they need to make it through every day and not to relapse into their former addictive behaviours.
Professional rehab centres knows that if you are to treat the addict, you will have to do so by means of treating the body, mind and soul. Only then will you be able to truly help them achieve what they set out to do – to a live an independent life, free of drugs.
SCRC's approach is aimed at facilitating change from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.
This process will yield limited success when approached outside of a residential treatment facility particularly when detoxification is required. It is imperative that individuals entering treatment are given as much training and education as possible.
I don' know what I would've done without many of you. Thank you for giving me the gift of life.
I'll never forget SCRC and everyone involved!
