Cocaine Symptoms

Cocaine is a highly addictive drug in that the user experiences feelings of euphoria when snorting, smoking or ingesting the drug. Some users also describe clearer thinking, greater levels of energy and the ease of performing simple tasks far more efficiently.

However, the drug has many more adverse cocaine symptoms than beneficial effects on the user. These initial effects of cocaine wear of quickly leaving the user feeling depressed, irritable and restless. This is mainly due to the fact that cocaine minimises the need for food or sleep leaving the user tired and listless after the initial cocaine symptoms have worn off.

One of the most adverse cocaine symptoms is cardiovascular difficulties such as heart palpitations that can even lead to heart attack. This is due to the constriction of blood vessels and the increase in heart rate and blood pressure that are experienced shortly after taking the drug.

The drug can also lead to respiratory failure and intense chest pains being experienced by the user. The drug can cause abdominal discomfort in the form of nausea and pain being experienced by the user. Other cocaine symptoms are neurological and can result in headaches in the mildest forms and seizures and even stroke in an individual.

Cocaine builds up a tolerance level within the user’s body meaning that they will require more and more of the drug through time to get the feeling of euphoria that they crave. This leads to a toxic build up in the person’s body that will eventually lead to death.

An increase in take of the drug can also lead to over dose and instant death has been known for first time users. There are a number of side effects that are related to long term cocaine use that may be difficult to reverse.

We will do whatever it takes ...

SCRC's approach is aimed at facilitating change from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.

This process will yield limited success when approached outside of a residential treatment facility particularly when detoxification is required. It is imperative that individuals entering treatment are given as much training and education as possible.
