Halfway House

It is widely accepted that the period of time invested within a therapeutic environment greatly enhances a positive prognosis and sustained recovery.

Decades of international research has shown that the most effective form of treatment is a residency within a 'therapeutic community' of 6 months to a year.

In order to facilitate those residents that need and wish to entrench their recovery and extend their stay and re-integration, SCRC has developed a ‘standalone’ Halfway House facility (HWH), available for those who have graduated from the Primary Care facility.

This recently completed facility, is situated on a separate 1 acre property as the Primary

Care facility, and is managed under the auspices of SCRC.

The objective of the HWH is to provide a safe and controlled living environment for those who want to reintegrate themselves slowly back into society, under supervision of staff and fellow residents, alleviating the family of this difficult and controversial responsibility during this critical phase of the recovery process.

It provides the individual with the opportunity to practice effective implementation of theoretical recovery knowledge and skills, personal responsibility, and focus on forward progress in all areas of life, in a supportive and safe environment.

Residents have the opportunity to secure employment or study, either outside the facility, or on the premises. For this reason, an air of mutual respect is kept, creating an environment conducive to working/studying.

The HWH provides a protected environment for an extended period of varying lengths, in some cases up to a year, where the individual benefits from:

  • Continued participation with/exposure to Primary Care
  • Individualised Management
  • Continued, ongoing counselling
  • Support groups
  • Medical Support
  • Routine and structure of daily activities
  • Re-integration
  • Financial management and recording
  • Witnessed, documented drug screening regime
  • House Rules
  • Further education
  • Career Guidance incl. aptitude testing
  • Preparation of CV's
  • Employment
  • Resident Manager
  • Security
  • Support from like minded peers
  • Management of Transport

The HWH facility is a bridging society and offers an opportunity for self-improvement. The underlying theme of the facility is the application of lessons learned through a steady reintegration process.

We will do whatever it takes ...

SCRC's approach is aimed at facilitating change from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.

This process will yield limited success when approached outside of a residential treatment facility particularly when detoxification is required. It is imperative that individuals entering treatment are given as much training and education as possible.
